We offer advice on 24/7 posture management in order to prevent or, maintain asymmetrical body shape, changes that effect falls, developing secondary conditions, skin integrity deterioration and loss of independence.
The causes of having a fall are multifactorial. They can be due to muscle weakness, poor balance, visual impairment, certain medicines, environmental hazards or specific medical conditions. As we age our body shape changes, influenced by the interactions with surfaces when sitting, lying or standing. Certain medical conditions, compensatory postural change, gravity induced changes when sat dormant in unsupportive seating, or lying in bed for long periods of time can all contribute. These changes can also occur throughout our lives too.
Body shape changes can be reduced or prevented, with education, knowledge and equipment, in order to delay balance issues developing when our centre of gravity falls outside our base of support. Ocean City Therapy advocates a 24/7 posture management approach, in order to prevent, correct, slow down or accommodate body shape changes, as part of our fall’s prevention practice.
